Hotel Murano was completely renovated in 2008 with a focus on glass art. Formerly Sheraton Tacoma, the new hotel kept the old building’s structure intact while replacing all soft goods for a simple, modern feel.
Care was taken to use energy efficient lighting throughout the hotel to compliment the hotel’s glass atrium in the lobby and restaurant. All flourescent lighting consists of T8 low mercury content bulbs, guest room lamps have GE Watt Mizer energy efficient bulbs, and LED lighting is used throughout the hotel to illuminate select works of art. Hotel Murano is also the only hotel in Washington State to use a Plate and Frame Heat Exchanger, saving up half of the energy used in cooling the facility in warmer months.
The hotel actively promotes recycling and linen reuse programs.
