Dan Moore, Chief Outings Officer
EverGreen Escapes
Dan’s mission is to create an exciting and comfortable learning environment in which people feel inspired AND a sense of accomplishment. A tour with him is about the overall experience, not just the bits of information. Dan grew up in Minneapolis MN and spent a large percentage of his childhood out exploring the wilderness and wild areas around home and afar. In 1996, after graduating from college in St. Paul MN (Macalester College), he left to spend most of a year in South America trekking and researching tropical forests in Bolivia, Peru and Brazil. It is here that Dan discovered the importance of creating positive experiences for people in the outdoors (“You can’t love what you don’t know, and people won’t protect what they don’t love” he says). He came back to the US in 1997 to get a graduate degree in Environmental Education from the University of MN at Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center and shortly after graduating he moved to Seattle. When he’s not leading tours and team building programs for Evergreen Escapes, Dan, who is Chief Outings Officer, works behind the scenes designing programs and helping to run the business. In his spare time Dan plays guitar in a Neil Young tribute band.
MICK PEARSON, Owner of KAF Adventures
Professional Outdoor Educator and Mountain Guide
Mick began studying Outdoor Recreation in 1997 at the University of Oregon, and felt the value of experiential education while spending time with others in wild places. Outdoor education and adventure travel fuel Mick’s passion for life. This excitement and commitment to sharing this process is the foundation for his company, KAF Adventures, which is dedicated to self discovery, wilderness skill education and leadership development through outdoor recreation, adventure travel, and wilderness exploration. In all their programs, KAF strives to maintain an awareness of their impact on the natural environment and of different cultures they visit.
Heidi Siegelbaum, Principal
Calyx Sustainable Tourism
Heidi grew up around plants, lots of animals and more than ample food. Her parents brought her along on travel adventures from the time she was 2 years old and she always had a very strong connection with food, working on farms, cooking like mad and becoming interested in the entire farm to table process. Once she started working in restaurants, Heidi was horrified at the amount of food being thrown out. About the same time, she began to notice the systematic, but hardly noticed destruction of the natural places she loved.
By the time she was practicing environmental law at EPA and continuing to travel, Heidi started to form ideas around combining her love for the environment, food and travel into one practice area of passion… and voila! Calyx Sustainable Tourism was developed in partnership with Steve Gersman. Calyx is totally committed to making the intersection between tourism, health, community development and joyous respect an understandable and attractive investment.
